Omer Gokcekus is a Professor of International Economics and Development at Seton Hall University, affiliated with the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies. He joined the institution in 2003 after teaching at Duke University, North Carolina Central University, and serving as a visiting professor at Munster University (Germany), University of Cyprus, and University of Economics in Bratislava. His career includes a decade-long consultancy role with the World Bank, contributing to public sector reform projects in 16 countries including Argentina, Bolivia, and Bangladesh.
Research interests span corruption dynamics, trade policies, public sector governance, economic development, foreign aid, and wine economics. His work integrates econometric analysis with case studies in regions like Northern Cyprus and the ECO countries. Notable outputs include studies on corruption’s impact on international trade, shadow economies, and wine market behaviors.
Teaching focuses on advanced international relations economics, policy analysis, and comparative political economy. Courses include Advanced Economic Aspects of International Relations and Senior Research Project/Diplomacy Honor Thesis Project.
Prior World Bank engagements involved public sector reforms in developing nations. His consultancy work emphasized policy implementation and institutional capacity-building.
