Dr. Omar McDoom is an Associate Professor in Comparative Politics at the Department of Government, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His research focuses on conflict, violence, and security with expertise in genocides, ethnic conflicts, and civil wars, particularly in Central Africa and Southeast Asia. He has held research fellowships at Harvard University and Oxford University, and prior to academia, worked as a Policy Officer at the World Bank and Legal Officer for the Government of Guyana. He co-founded The Child is Innocent, a non-profit aiding children affected by Uganda's civil war.
Dr. McDoom holds law degrees from King’s College London and the Université de Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, a Master’s in International Development Studies from George Washington University, and a PhD in Development Studies from LSE. His research explores strategies for ethnic and religious coexistence, analyzing how divisions arise and how groups achieve conciliation in diverse societies.
His recent work includes analyses of Rwanda’s pre-genocide political trajectory, critiques of scholarly bias in Israel-Palestine conflict framing, and explorations of transnational networks enabling kleptocratic capital. He frequently engages with policy-makers and media on conflict-related issues.
