Omar Carmenates is a Professor of Percussion at Furman University, where he leads the percussion program encompassing classical, jazz, and world music studies. He holds a Doctor of Music (D.M.) from Florida State University, a Master of Music (M.M.) from the University of North Texas, and a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in Music Education from the University of Central Florida.

Research Interests: Carmenates focuses on ecoacoustic music, interdisciplinary collaborations, and sustainability in music. His work includes directing the Furman University Percussion Ensemble, which performs ecoacoustic compositions and collaborates with composers like Matthew Burtner. He emphasizes contemporary percussion performance and fostering diverse musical education.
Grants & Projects: The ensemble received funding from the David E. Shi Center for Sustainability for projects like Six Ecoacoustic Quintets and Avian Telemetry. Students have presented at conferences such as the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and the Esri GIS User Conference.
