Dr. Paul L Buyer is a Professor of Music and Director of Percussion at Clemson University, where he also serves as Acting Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Affairs in the College of Arts and Humanities. He holds a DMA and MM in Percussion Performance from the University of Arizona and a BS in Music Education from Ball State University. His research focuses on percussion pedagogy, ensemble excellence, and interdisciplinary approaches to music education. Key contributions include books like World Music and Drumline Gold, which explore cultural diversity in music and precision ensemble techniques.
Dr. Buyer is a PAS Co-Editorial Director and former PAS Second Vice President. He has received the 2019 PAS Outstanding Service Award and is endorsed by Yamaha, Vic-Firth, Remo, Sabian, Grover Pro, and Balter Mallets. His articles address topics like stress management in ensembles, rehearsal systems, and cross-disciplinary leadership insights from sports and business.
As a performer, he competed in Drum and Bugle Corps, placing 2nd in DCI Keyboard Individuals. His speaking engagements and workshops emphasize excellence through values like consistency, leadership, and quality. He actively contributes to professional journals such as Percussive Notes and maintains an active blog with resources for percussionists and educators.
