Om Dhungyel is a Principal Research Fellow at the Sydney Institute of Agriculture, University of Sydney. His research focuses on footrot in small ruminants, including vaccine development and disease control strategies. He holds a BVSc&AH from Kerala Agricultural University, an MSc, and a PhD.
Research interests: Applied animal health, footrot pathogenesis, and sheep health. Current projects include studies on footrot microbiome dynamics, vaccine efficacy, and collaborations with institutions like Utrecht University and EMAI NSW DPI.
Publications span 2001–2024, emphasizing diagnostic methods, vaccine development, and bacterial virulence factors. Recognized for his 2019 SSVS award and patented footrot vaccine.
Teaching roles include sheep health instruction for AVBS and DVM students. Supervises 1–2 PhD students annually and advises DVM research projects. Active in grants funded by McGarvie Smith Institute and Meat & Livestock Australia.
