Olya Kudina

Olya Kudina is an Associate Professor in Ethics/Philosophy of Technology at Delft University of Technology's Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management. She holds a PhD from the University of Twente (2019) and was promoted to her current rank in December 2024. As co-director of the AI DeMoS Lab, she investigates AI's impact on democracy through sociotechnical frameworks. She is also co-founder/editor-in-chief of the Journal of Human-Technology Relations and an elected member of The Young Academy of the Dutch Royal Science Academy (2024–2029).

Her research integrates moral hermeneutics, pragmatism, and empirical methods to analyze technology-mediated value change. Key interests include: AI ethics, voice assistants, sociotechnical systems, democratic deliberation, and inclusive design. She explores how technologies reshape human values in contexts ranging from healthcare to political discourse.

Her publications focus on ethical challenges in emerging technologies, particularly AI systems. Recent work examines large language models, adversarial machine learning for democratic processes, bias in speech recognition, and sociotechnical governance. A consistent emphasis on empirical philosophy and value dynamics unifies her scholarship.

She leads multiple research consortia, including the Dutch National ELSA Lab AI MAPS (with police) and the ProtectME project on adolescent mental wellbeing. She supervises PhD candidates in areas like synthetic media ethics, political subjectivity in social media, and adversarial AI for deliberation.
