Olivier Wouters

Dr. Olivier Wouters is an Assistant Professor of Health Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), where he directs the master’s degree in global health policy. He holds visiting faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School (PORTAL program) and Brown University’s Center for Health System Sustainability (CHeSS). His research focuses on pharmaceutical laws, regulations, and policies, particularly their impact on global access to medicines and drug pricing. He teaches courses such as Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy, Global Access to Medicines, and Principles of Health Technology Assessment. His work has been published in top-tier journals like The BMJ, JAMA, and The Lancet. In 2021, he received LSE’s Excellence in Education Award for outstanding teaching and leadership. Dr. Wouters earned his undergraduate degree in International Relations from Georgetown University, followed by a master’s in Health Economics and a PhD in Health Policy from LSE.

Key research areas include drug pricing strategies, pharmaceutical policy analysis, and global health equity. His recent studies address challenges in pandemic preparedness, vaccine equity, and Medicare drug price negotiations. He has also examined lobbying practices in the pharmaceutical industry and the impact of regulatory frameworks on drug affordability.
