Professor Oliver Volckart holds the position of Professor of Economic History at the Department of Economic History, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). His academic career spans roles at LSE since 2002 and previous appointments at Humboldt University Berlin and Jena University. He specializes in late medieval and early modern European economic history, particularly the Holy Roman Empire's political economy, monetary policies, and state formation. His 2024 monograph The Silver Empire examines Germany's first common currency, while recent research explores market integration and fiscal institutions.
