Oliver Springate-Baginski is a Professor of Environment and Development at the University of East Anglia, affiliated with the School of Global Development. He is a member of several key research centers, including the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, the Water Security Research Centre, the Global Environmental Justice Group, and the Politics, Governance and the State research cluster.
His primary research lies at the intersection of political ecology and political economy, focusing on forest governance reform, tenure rights, livelihood development, and biodiversity management in developing countries—particularly in India, Nepal, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Tanzania. His work emphasizes democratic participation, social justice, and poverty alleviation in natural resource management.
His recent publications explore agrarian transitions in conflict zones, community-based tenure defense, REDD+ impacts on livelihoods, and forest conservation during political transitions. These reflect a consistent focus on equity, governance, and sustainability in environmental development.
