Oliver Rackham is an Adjunct Professor affiliated with the University of Western Australia (UWA) Medical School and UWA Centre for Medical Research, collaborating with the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research. He holds a PhD and BSc(Hons) in Biochemistry from the University of Otago, New Zealand. His expertise spans synthetic biology, mitochondrial biogenesis, and gene editing technologies. Rackham leads research funded by ARC, Cancer Council WA, and NHMRC, focusing on mitochondrial translation mechanisms and RNA-protein interactions.
Research Interests: His work addresses fundamental biological processes including mitochondrial protein synthesis, ribosome function, and CRISPR-based gene editing. He pioneers innovations in base editing and synthetic biology applications, contributing to cancer research and biotechnological advancements.
Awards: He received the Marshall Medal and was inducted into the European Inventor Hall of Fame. Rackham has secured over 21 grants, including major equipment grants for cutting-edge genomic research. He co-leads projects exploring non-coding RNAs in cancer and mitochondrial transcriptome dynamics.
Collaborations: Active in international research networks, Rackham collaborates with institutions like the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (UK) and Curtin University. He is a founding member of Synthetic Biology Australasia and previously served as its President.
