Dr. Oliver Okafor is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting & Finance at the Ted Rogers School of Management, Toronto Metropolitan University. He joined the university in 2017 and has since held key leadership roles, including Director of the CPA Ontario Centre for Public Sector Accounting and Accountability and academic director of the Professional Master’s Diploma (PMDip) in Accounting. He holds a PhD and dual MBAs in Accounting and Taxation from the University of Calgary and is a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and UK Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA).
His educational background includes an MBA in Banking and Finance from the University of Nigeria and a distinguished undergraduate degree from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu. Prior to academia, he worked in banking (First Bank of Nigeria, Royal Bank of Canada), government (CRA tax auditor/trainer), and professional education (CPA Canada, SAIT).
Dr. Okafor's research centers on tax compliance, accountability, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), with interdisciplinary reach across public administration, criminology, and Indigenous studies. His work explores whistleblowing, carbon tax policy, immigrant integration in finance, and public sector governance. He has published in leading journals such as Journal of Business Ethics, European Accounting Review, and Canadian Tax Journal.
His recent publications reflect a strong trend in socio-technical and policy-oriented accounting research, combining empirical analysis with ethical and institutional perspectives. Themes include tax justice, environmental accountability, and systemic barriers in professional integration, particularly for immigrants and Indigenous communities.

Dr. Okafor has supervised multiple research projects and secured significant external and internal funding, including from SSHRC and CPA organizations. He is also actively involved in curriculum development and teaching at both graduate and professional levels.
His work is associated with research initiatives in public sector accountability and EDI in accounting, particularly through the CPA Ontario Centre. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and contributes to policy-relevant research in taxation and governance.
