Oliver John Semmes

Oliver John Semmes is the Director of the Leroy T. Canoles Jr. Cancer Research Center and a Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Cell Biology at Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. He has held these positions since 2009 and 2004 respectively, with prior academic roles including Associate Professor and Assistant Professor at other institutions.

Dr. Semmes specializes in prostate cancer research, proteomics, and biomarker discovery. His work focuses on glycosylation patterns in prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), urinary proteome analysis, and the role of extracellular vesicles in cancer progression. His lab explores molecular mechanisms of tumor heterogeneity and immunologic responses in cancer patients.

The lab team includes Xin(Cindy) Guo (Instructor), LiFang Yang (Post-Doc), Hampus Alexander Anders Engström (Research Associate I), and Vanessa L. Correll (Research Assistant II), all contributing to proteomic and cancer research projects at EVMS.
