Olga Sydd is a Doctoral Researcher and Project Researcher at the Department of Geographical and Historical Studies, affiliated with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies at the University of Eastern Finland. Her work primarily focuses on environmental policy, mining policy, and sustainable resource management, with a strong emphasis on social life cycle assessment and small-scale mining.
Olga contributes to interdisciplinary research projects such as the CEMMS - Research Center for Mining, Minerals and Society and the Social Scientific Biosociety Research Network (SOBIO). Her research addresses critical issues in responsible mining, particularly in post-conflict regions like Bosnia and Herzegovina, and explores technological solutions for modular mining plants and renewable energy integration in mining operations.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in evaluating social hotspots and corruption risks in mining supply chains, as well as assessing sustainable development goals in the context of raw materials. Her collaborative work spans institutions in France (BRGM), the UK (University of Exeter), and Greece, reflecting a pan-European and international approach to mining sustainability.
