Olga Sofia Tyni serves as a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine within the Department of Food Hygiene and Environmental Health. She is actively affiliated with Helsinki One Health (HOH) research initiative and the Doctoral Programme in Food Chain and Health.
Her research focuses on zoonotic antimicrobial resistance through the lens of One Health, specifically investigating pathogen transmission between humans, animals, and environmental reservoirs. Her work integrates veterinary science with environmental health monitoring, particularly through wastewater analysis to track clinically relevant bacterial strains.
Her 2024 publication in Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control demonstrates her expertise in genomic epidemiology of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae. This research establishes wastewater surveillance as a critical tool for detecting emerging antimicrobial resistance threats across the human-animal-environment interface.
She operates within the Helsinki One Health collaborative framework, which connects multiple faculties and research units across the university to address complex health challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
