Olga Maria Piaskowska

Professor Olga Maria Piaskowska is a lawyer, attorney, and professor at SWPS University, where she serves as the Academic Ombudsman (since March 2022). She is affiliated with the Institute of Law at the Faculty of Law in Warsaw, Department of Private Law.

Her educational background includes earning a PhD and habilitation (dr hab.), leading to her current position as a professor at SWPS University. She is a certified legal professional working as both a lawyer and attorney-at-law.

Professor Piaskowska's research focuses on civil law and procedure, prejudicial jurisdiction in criminal proceedings, excessive length of court proceedings, application of the European Convention on Human Rights in Polish civil proceedings, and academic teaching. Currently, she is conducting research with Professor Piotr Piesiewicz on the impact of AI development, including tools such as GPT chat, on legal skills and the originality of legal work. Her work bridges traditional legal scholarship with emerging technological challenges in the legal profession.

She has made significant contributions to legal education in Poland by co-creating the SWPS University Law School and developing the only legal skills program in the country. Her teaching portfolio includes civil procedure, legal skills (lawyering skills), eristics and rhetoric, legal argumentation, and civil litigation.

Professor Piaskowska has received notable recognition for her scholarly work:

• 2014: "Golden Wings" award for her doctoral dissertation in the competition for young authors organized by "Dziennik Gazeta Prawna"
• 2015: Winner of the "Rising Stars – Lawyers Leaders of Tomorrow" competition

Her professional experience includes serving as a Senior Assistant at the Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court (2011-2021), supervising the Civil Section of the SWPS University Student Legal Clinic, and chairing the Student Disciplinary Committee (2016-2022). She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Association of Law Teachers (ALT), the Legal Education Research Network (LERN), the Global Alliance for Justice Education (GAJE), and the Polish Association of European Law.

As Academic Ombudsman, Professor Piaskowska plays a crucial role in maintaining academic integrity and addressing student concerns at SWPS University, combining her legal expertise with her commitment to academic excellence.
