Olga Malkova is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), specializing in labor economics, demography, and health economics. She holds affiliations with the Center for Population, Inequality, and Policy (UCI), the Institute of Labor Economics (IZA), and serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Population Economics. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor (later tenured and promoted to Associate Professor) at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business.
Her research examines the causal effects of social programs, including family planning, child benefits, and pension reforms, on fertility, labor supply, and health outcomes. Notable work includes studies on maternity benefits’ long-term effects, alcohol policy impacts on families, and the role of adult children in parental labor decisions. She has received prestigious awards such as the Dorothy S. Thomas Award and the Heinz König Young Scholar Award.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan, B.A. in Economics and Statistics (with honors) from UC Berkeley. She has taught courses on labor economics, poverty, and microeconomics, and has advised doctoral committees at multiple institutions. Her current research explores topics like anti-alcohol campaigns’ societal effects and child tax credit policies.
