Kasey Buckles is a Professor of Economics at the University of Notre Dame, with a concurrent appointment in Gender Studies. She also serves as a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), a Research Fellow at the IZA Institute for Labor Economics, and a Faculty Affiliate at the BYU Record Linking Lab. Her research focuses on the economics of the family, economic demography, and child health and well-being, with particular attention to historical intergenerational mobility, public health interventions, and labor market dynamics.
Her professional leadership roles include serving as Associate Chair and Director of Mentoring for the American Economics Association’s Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (2022-2024), and President of the Midwest Economics Association (2022-2023). She is also involved in committees addressing professional climate and household economics.
Buckles’ recent work explores topics such as multigenerational mobility patterns in U.S. history, the impact of public health policies during pandemics, and the effects of economic recessions on fertility. Her research frequently integrates historical data, genealogical records, and machine learning techniques to analyze long-term socioeconomic trends.
