Dr Olga Kopach serves as a Lecturer at the Neurosciences and Cell Biology Research Institute within the School of Health and Medical Sciences at City St George's, University of London (formed from the merger of City, University, London and St George's, University of London on August 1, 2024).
Her research expertise spans multiple neuroscience domains with particular focus on nerve cell dysfunction mechanisms in ischemia, dementia, and other neurodegenerative disorders. She employs advanced electrophysiology and fluorescent imaging techniques across in vitro, in situ, and in vivo models. Her work also encompasses innovative drug delivery technologies for targeted neurological treatments.
Dr Kopach's scientific journey began with a PhD in Physiology followed by postdoctoral research investigating central mechanisms of persistent pain and glutamate receptors in spinal cord nociceptive plasticity. She subsequently advanced to Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow positions at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology where she studied synaptic plasticity and neuron-glial interactions related to learning and memory mechanisms.
