Dr. Camilla Clark serves as a Consultant Clinical Lecturer investigating emotional change after head injury and Consultant Neurologist at the Neuroscience & Cell Biology Research Institute, City St George's, University of London. Following the August 2024 merger of City, University of London and St George's, University of London, she now works within the newly formed institution.
Her research focuses on:
- Emotional change following traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Interoceptive processes and emotional self-awareness
- Social cognition breakdown in frontotemporal dementia (FTD)
- Neuroanatomical associations using structural brain MRI and voxel-based morphometry
Dr. Clark employs psychophysiological, structural and functional neuroimaging techniques to investigate transsyndromic emotional change across neurological conditions, aiming to inform targeted clinical interventions.
Her notable scientific recognition includes:
- Academy of Medical sciences Starter grant for Clinical Lecturers (2021) for 'How we understand our emotions: Is alexithymia following traumatic brain injury a generalised failure of interoception?'
- Rosetree Seedcorn grant (2024) for 'Are persistent symptoms following mild traumatic brain injury due to a failure of interoceptive processes'
She maintains significant research collaborations with Professor David Sharp's group at Imperial College London (specializing in TBI consequences) and Professor Sarah Garfinkel at University College London's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience (a world leader in autonomic affective neuroscience and heart-brain interactions).
