Giovanna Mioni is an Associate Professor at the Department of General Psychology, University of Padova. Her research focuses on time perception across diverse populations, including healthy older adults, clinical groups (e.g., traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease), and patients with neurological disorders. She investigates the neural mechanisms of temporal processing using non-invasive brain stimulation techniques and explores how emotions, interoception, and external environments influence time estimation.
Her work integrates cognitive neuroscience, experimental psychology, and clinical applications. Key areas include:
- Temporal processing in milliseconds-to-seconds ranges
- Effects of emotion and stress on time perception
- Development of VR-based tools for mental health assessment
- Age-related cognitive changes and interventions (e.g., SWIFT collaborative training)
Her recent studies highlight dissociations between explicit and implicit timing in aging populations and the role of supplementary motor areas in timing tasks. Research also extends to pandemic-related temporalities and psychological impacts of time perception.
Mioni collaborates internationally on projects such as the Psychological Science Accelerator’s global health studies. Her lab emphasizes translational research bridging basic science and clinical practice.
