Dr. Olga Celda Real is a Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College London’s Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. She holds interdisciplinary qualifications including a PhD in Spanish Cultural Studies from King’s College London, alongside MA and B.A. degrees from Goldsmiths, University of Manchester, and ESAD (University of Valencia). Her professional roles span dramaturgy, theatre translation, academic programme coordination, and artistic direction across institutions like Manchester Youth Theatre and Marymount College (USA) in London.

Her research focuses on Valencian socio-cultural identity through theatrical forms like the sainet, Francoist censorship analysis, and interdisciplinary performance studies. Recent work includes exploring gendered corporeality in dance (Martha Graham, Pina Bausch) and examining censorship’s impact on Valencian authors during Franco’s dictatorship.
Awards include AHGBI’s 2021 publication grant supporting her monograph The Valencian Sainet: Drama and Socio-Cultural Identity (1845-1939) (2023, Peter Lang) and a 2022-2023 Leverhulme grant investigating Francoist censorship of Valencian sainets. She is an Academician at Real Acadèmia de Cultura Valenciana (RACV) and collaborates with ITAMAR journal.

Her translation work includes García Lorca’s House of Bernarda Alba for Royal Court co-production and José Martín Recuerda’s Inmates at the Convent.
