Olena Isaeva, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She holds a PhD and DSc from Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology in Ukraine, with postdoctoral training at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and Dartmouth's Geisel School of Medicine. Her research focuses on ion channel biophysics in neuronal and epithelial cells, particularly their roles in pain mechanisms, epilepsy, and renal disorders. Dr. Isaeva employs advanced techniques including patch-clamp electrophysiology, microscopy, and animal behavioral analysis in her studies.
Her research interests span ion channel regulation in disease contexts, synaptic plasticity, and mechanotransduction. Current work emphasizes understanding how ion channel dysregulation contributes to pathological conditions like neuropathic pain, sickle cell disease complications, and Fabry disease. She collaborates with Cheryl Stucky’s lab to investigate cellular mechanisms underlying mechanical sensitization.
Over 20 articles authored since 2023 reflect her expertise in pain biology, kidney physiology, and neurodevelopmental processes. Key methodologies include electrophysiological recordings, animal behavior models, and cellular imaging. Her work has implications for developing novel therapeutic strategies targeting ion channel dysfunction and neurodegenerative processes.
