Dr. Olajide A. Williams is a Professor of Neurology and Vice Dean of Community Health at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. He also serves as Vice Chair of the Department of Neurology and Director of the Columbia Center for Community Health at the Jerome L. Greene Science Center. As an attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and clinical neurologist at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Dr. Williams maintains an active clinical practice specializing in stroke and cerebrovascular diseases.
Dr. Williams earned his medical degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, completed residency and fellowship training at Columbia University, and holds a Master of Science from Columbia's Mailman School of Public Health. His educational background uniquely positions him at the intersection of clinical neurology and public health.
As a world-renowned leader in stroke disparities research, Dr. Williams has pioneered innovative community-based behavioral interventions that address health inequities. His research focuses on developing culturally tailored approaches to improve stroke literacy and prevention in underserved communities, with particular emphasis on child-mediated education models. The publication record shows consistent output in high-impact journals across neurology, public health, and community-based research, with recent work expanding into digital health interventions, health worker training, and addressing systemic barriers to care.

His work bridges clinical practice, research, and community engagement to address healthcare disparities and promote health equity.
As co-director of the Columbia Center for Community Health, Dr. Williams leads a multidisciplinary team focused on developing and implementing community-based interventions that address social determinants of health. His work extends beyond traditional academic boundaries through partnerships with community organizations, faith-based institutions, and public health agencies to create sustainable health improvement strategies.
