Dr. Yvonne Curran serves as Assistant Professor of Neurology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine with dual appointments in Stroke and Vascular Neurology and Comprehensive Neurology. She concurrently holds the position of Medical Director for the Stroke Program at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lawndale, Chicago, where she leads initiatives to deliver equitable stroke care in underserved communities.
Her educational trajectory includes an MD from The Royal College of Surgeons In Ireland (1988), followed by an Internal Medicine residency at Ibin al Bitar Hospital (1989), Neurology residency at Rush Presbyterian Saint Luke's Medical Center (1994), Chief Residency in Neurology at Rush University (1995), Psychiatry residency at Rush Presbyterian Saint Luke's Medical Center (1995), and fellowships in EMG and Neuromuscular disease at Rush University (1996). Dr. Curran's research program centers on stroke epidemiology, vascular neurology, and headache disorders with pronounced emphasis on health disparities in underserved populations. Her work integrates clinical neurology with public health frameworks to address sickle cell disease complications, medication-overuse headache barriers, and systemic inequities in stroke care. She employs mixed-methods approaches to examine social determinants of health and patient-provider communication dynamics.
Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on community-based interventions, with emerging trends showing increased investigation into digital health tools for blood pressure monitoring in federally qualified health centers and social risk factors affecting stroke survivorship.
