Ola Rominiyi is a NIHR Clinical Lecturer in Neurosurgery at the University of Sheffield's School of Medicine and Population Health. His research focuses on neuro-oncology, particularly glioblastoma and its DNA damage response mechanisms, aiming to bridge clinical practice with translational research via the Sheffield Translational Brain Tumour Research Group, where he serves as Translational Lead.
- Education: BSc (Hons) in Physiology & Pharmacology, MB ChB (Hons), MRCS, PhD in Molecular Neuro-Oncology (2020).
- Professional Roles: NIHR Clinical Lecturer (2021+), Novocure collaboration lead (2018+), 100,000 Genomes Project lead (2017+).
Research Interests: Rominiyi investigates spatial intratumoural heterogeneity in high-grade brain tumours, emphasizing responses to DNA damage and developing novel monitoring/treatment strategies. His work leverages surgically-relevant 3D glioblastoma stem cell models to replace animal studies and identify therapeutic targets. Current projects include:
- DDR-targeted combinations via intracavity delivery.
- Ex-vivo drug screening for personalized therapy.
- Combining Tumour Treating Fields (TTFields) with DDR inhibitors.
Scientific Awards:
- NIHR Clinical Lectureship
- Royal College of Surgeons Clinical PhD Fellowship
- Neurocare Clinical PhD Fellowship
- Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity Support
Advising and Collaborations: Supervises Kelsey Wosnitzka (PhD), Claudia Zizzo (MSc), and contributes to training via the 100,000 Genomes Project. Collaborates with institutions like University of Nottingham, Karolinska Institutet, and companies such as Novocure and Allcyte.
Articles Trends: His recent publications emphasize ex-vivo models for drug screening, DDR inhibitors, and TTFields in glioblastoma. Key subfields include combination therapies, spatial heterogeneity, and blood-brain barrier penetration.
