Oguzhan Alagoz is the Procter & Gamble Bascom Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering and Population Health Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He leads the University of Wisconsin Breast Cancer Simulation Model, part of the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network. His research focuses on stochastic optimization, medical decision-making, and healthcare systems engineering. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles and secured $7M in grants, primarily from NIH/NSF.
Education: Ph.D. (2004) University of Pittsburgh; MS (2000) Middle East Technical University; BS (1997) Bilkent University.
Research interests include Markov decision processes, healthcare simulation, and health technology assessment. His work addresses cancer screening policies, personalized medicine, and pandemic impact modeling. Recent projects include analyzing breast cancer mortality trends and optimizing post-hospital transitions to skilled nursing facilities.
Awards include IISE Fellow (2021), NSF CAREER Award (2009), and INFORMS Pierskalla Best Paper finalist (2011). He serves as Associate Editor for Operations Research and previously led IISE Transactions on Healthcare Systems Engineering.
Grants total ~$7M, with $500K annual funding. His research group collaborates on cancer modeling, telehealth innovations, and infection control strategies. He advises graduate students in healthcare systems engineering and decision-making.
