Nydia Boyd is an Assistant Professor of Photography in the Department of Art and Visual Culture at Spelman College, where she has been a faculty member since 2019. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, she creates work through a Black feminine lens exploring sexuality, intimacy, and identity using photography, collage, video, and books.
Her educational background includes:
- B.S. from Ithaca College
- M.F.A. from Syracuse University in the College of Visual and Performing Arts
Boyd's research centers on the reclamation of the body through allegorical spaces where props extend physicality, costumes mark identity, and gestures reveal performance. Her Panamanian-American heritage informs work challenging power structures around circumstance and value, emphasizing magical resilience as essential for survival. She interrogates how cultural narratives shape intimate experiences while celebrating Black feminine perspectives.

Boyd has taught courses for the High Museum of Art, Anderson Ranch, and Cornell University's Image Text MFA program.
