Leiden Universityمعرفی
Nurul Huda Binte Abdul Rashid is a postdoctoral researcher at Leiden University's Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology (CADS), affiliated with the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Her research focuses on algorithmic visuality, examining representations of Muslim women in global search engines through intersections of AI studies, critical gender/race theory, and photo/archive theory. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies in Asia from the National University of Singapore (NUS).
Prior to her PhD, she taught Anthropology, Sociology, and Visual Arts in Singaporean institutions since 2011. Her work bridges academic research with artistic practice, including collaborations like Pulau Something (a Nusantara digital archive) and New Curriculum for Old Questions, a decolonial pedagogical initiative. She has also co-facilitated workshops on gender violence, sexual education, and community-based annotation projects with marginalized communities.
Her artistic practice explores Southeast Asian and Muslim-world visual cultures, using participatory methods to reclaim colonial archives. Selected engagements include exhibitions, guest lectures, and curatorial collaborations with institutions like Objectifs and the NUS Museum.
