Nurgül Özbek is a Research Fellow at the SSE Institute for Research (SIR) at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), affiliated with the Department of Marketing and Strategy. She holds a Ph.D. from SSE (2016), focusing on Swedish small life science firms' legitimation in international networks. Her research explores practices shaping markets and change, emphasizing value conflicts, valuation tools, and market dynamics in healthcare sectors. Key areas include medical devices, pharmaceuticals, wellness industries, and public healthcare innovation.
Her current projects investigate value-based assessments of medical devices and digitalization challenges in international contexts. She teaches courses in marketing, management, innovation, and organizational studies and supervises M.Sc./B.Sc. theses on topics like valuation studies, healthcare equity, and e-health. She collaborates with Uppsala University on the Leapfrog project addressing societal transformation through innovation management.
Özbek’s work addresses societal challenges such as aging populations, healthcare costs, and equity in access to essential goods. Her empirical studies span health-related markets, including preventive care, food with health claims, and PPE during crises. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches combining economic sociology, STS (Science and Technology Studies), and institutional theory to analyze market practices and public sector innovation.
