Dr. Nur Rafeeda Daut serves as Associate Professor of ASEAN/Southeast Asian studies at the School of Politics and International Relations, University of Nottingham Malaysia. Her academic career includes prior teaching and research appointments at the University of Malaya, Zirve University (Türkiye), and Kansai Gaidai University (Japan).
Her educational foundation comprises a Ph.D. from the University of Kent at Brussels School of International Studies, an MA from the University of Leiden (Netherlands), and a BA from Syracuse University (New York).
Dr. Daut's research centers on identity politics across Southeast Asia, examining how national, religious, and ethnic identity contestations shape political dynamics. Her work spans colonial identity formation, domestic-international policy linkages, and ethnic nationalism in post-colonial contexts. Current research investigates Indian Muslim diasporas in Malaysia, analyzing state-engineered 'Malay-Muslim identity' impacts on ethnic Indian communities, with findings slated for a 2025 Routledge book chapter titled 'Diaspora in Peace and Conflict in the Indo-Pacific'.
She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses including Asian Regionalism & Economic Development, Politics & Security Issues in East Asia, Comparative Politics of Southeast Asia, and Nationalism & Ethnicity.
