Nuno Oliveira is a Research Fellow affiliated with ISCTE Lisbon University Institute (CIES-ISCTE-IUL) and the Max-Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. He holds a PhD in Sociology from ISCTE Lisbon University Institute, a Master's in Historical and Economic Sociology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a graduate degree in Data Analysis from ISCTE-IUL. His research focuses on integration policies, political discourse on immigration, and institutional frameworks for cultural and racial diversity, with comparative studies on Portugal and Brazil, as well as urban sociology and globalization.

His work explores transitions from multiculturalism to interculturalism, particularly the Portuguese model. He has led projects like 'GOVDIV' (funded by the EU) on multilevel governance of diversity and contributed to the 'Conviviality and Superdiversity' initiative. Previously, he served as a National Expert at the European Fundamental Rights Agency and coordinated Portugal’s Raxen network focal point. He also designed the Portuguese Immigration Observatory’s website under the High-commissioner for Migrations.
Research interests include diversity governance, immigrant integration, and political languages of accommodation. He has managed projects on superdiversity and advised the Numena-led 'Operation Vote' as head researcher.
Nuno’s contributions bridge sociological theory and policy, emphasizing comparative analyses between Europe and Latin America. His current focus includes urban sociology and the evolving frameworks of interculturalism.
