Ntina Tzouvala is Associate Professor at the ANU College of Law, specializing in the political economy and historical foundations of international law. Her work critically examines intersections of capitalism, race, and imperialism within legal frameworks.
Her research explores racial capitalism in international economic law, decolonization, and anti-racist legal pedagogy. She employs critical theory and historical materialist approaches to analyze how international law sustains structural inequalities.
Tzouvala's publications demonstrate consistent engagement with Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL), examining how racial hierarchies underpin global legal architectures. Recent work investigates the enduring legacies of imperialism in contemporary legal systems.
She has received multiple awards for her monograph Capitalism as Civilisation, including the ASIL Certificate of Merit. Tzouvala also serves as Senior Advisor to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food.
