Norman Bishara is a Professor of Business Law and Ethics at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. His research focuses on corporate governance, corruption control, and the legal aspects of human capital, particularly noncompete agreements and the future of work. He has held visiting professorships at IESE Business School (Barcelona) and the Shidler College of Business (University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa). His academic work includes co-authoring Lebanon’s first corporate governance code and analyzing corruption as a human rights issue.
Education: BA from Colgate University (1996), JD from Cornell University (1999), MPP from University of Michigan (2004).
Research interests span corporate governance in the Middle East, benefit corporations, and the impact of noncompete agreements on labor mobility. His publications appear in top journals like the Vanderbilt Law Review, Indiana Law Journal, and Journal of Law and Economics.
Key awards include the ALSB Early Career Faculty Award and Mauer Award for Ethics. Teaching includes courses on business law, ethics, and public policy. He has served as editor of the American Business Law Journal and president of the Employment Law Section of the Academy of Legal Studies in Business.
Professional experience includes private practice in New York, UNDP-RBEC work, and roles with Transparency International’s Lebanese affiliate. His work bridges legal frameworks, ethical practices, and global business environments.
