Nora Gilbert is a Professor of English and Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of North Texas (UNT), affiliated with the Women’s and Gender Studies program. She holds a Ph.D. and specializes in 19th-century British literature, 20th-century American film, and feminist studies. Her research explores intersections between censorship, gender, and narrative forms, with major works including *Better Left Unsaid* (2013) and *Gone Girls* (2023). She currently co-edits *Victorian Gaslighting: Genealogy of an Injustice* and works on a monograph about Hollywood stardom.

Research focuses on how constrained creative forms (Victorian novels, Hays Code films) foster innovation, feminist resistance through female flight tropes in literature, and Hollywood’s portrayal of female independence.
Publications appear in *PMLA*, *Film & History*, *Nineteenth-Century Literature*, and others. She has served as editor-in-chief of *Studies in the Novel* since 2017.
