Nolwena Monnier

Nolwena Monnier is a Maître de Conférences (Associate Professor) in English at the Institute of Technology (IUT A) of the University of Toulouse, affiliated with the Marketing Techniques department. Key roles include:

Trained as a civilizationist in medieval English studies and specialized language studies, Monnier's research centers on specialized languages in the Middle Ages. She investigates foreign languages in medieval chronicles, toponymy in Gerald of Wales' works, and the pedagogy of business English. Her scholarship bridges historical linguistics and contemporary language teaching through EMILE (Content and Language Integrated Learning).

Monnier's publications reveal two interconnected strands: medieval scholarship and language pedagogy. In medieval studies, she analyzes linguistic diversity and toponymy in 11th-13th century chronicles, while in pedagogy she explores project-based learning, teacher autonomy, and international exchanges. This dual focus allows her to draw historical insights for modern teaching practices, particularly in business English contexts.

She co-supervised PhD student Hind Faris and led a multi-year international project on informal language learning with the University of Boulder (USA) and GMIT (Ireland). Monnier is an active member of AMAES and RANACLES, co-manages HAL open archives for Lairdil, and serves on the editorial board of English Medieval Studies.
