Nobuo Saito is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, currently based in Nairobi, Kenya. He has also been involved in a 5-year rabies control project in the Philippines (2018–2023) under SATREPS funding, with plans to lead a new JICA project from 2024 onward. His work spans clinical epidemiology, tropical medicine, and public health.

- Certifications: Certified specialist in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases (Japan)
His research focuses on patient-based clinical studies of tropical infectious diseases, including rabies, tuberculosis (TB), diphtheria, leptospirosis, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR). He employs clinical epidemiology, spatial epidemiology, and microbiology methods to analyze pathogens and risk factors. His recent projects emphasize implementation research to improve community-level public health interventions.
Saito’s publications highlight his work on rabies diagnostics using lateral flow devices, the epidemiology of diphtheria in urban settings, and vaccine effectiveness against influenza and novel coronaviruses. His research spans both bacterial and viral pathogens in tropical regions, with a focus on translational public health solutions.

Saito supervises TMGH master’s students in the Philippines and teaches microbiological testing and epidemiological analysis. He collaborates with the Philippine Department of Agriculture to implement the Rabies Data Share System and plans to expand rabies control initiatives nationwide. He currently leads clinical research projects at Nagasaki University’s Kenya Research Center.
