Noah Kaye is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University's College of Social Science. His research focuses on ancient Mediterranean cultures with particular emphasis on the intersection of cultural identity and institutional change. He holds undergraduate degrees from Princeton and Cambridge Universities, and completed his M.A. and Ph.D. in Ancient History and Mediterranean Archaeology at UC-Berkeley.
Prof. Kaye has conducted fieldwork across Greece, Israel, and Turkey, including roles as Heinrich Schliemann Fellow at the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Haifa, and Senior Fellow at Koç University's Anatolian Civilizations Research Center. Current projects include a biography of Antalya, publication of Seleukid coins from the Ödemiş Museum, and an archaeoacoustic study of Samaritan inscriptions.
His research interests span Ancient Greece/Anatolia, Roman Near East, Second Temple Judaism, and GIS applications in archaeology. Notable publications include his 2022 open-access monograph on the Attalids of Pergamon, examining taxation's role in state formation, and articles analyzing fortification systems, epigraphic records, and Hellenistic fiscal politics.
Kaye collaborates on excavations like the Kale Tepesi Project (Phrygia) and serves as editor for Pleiades, a digital gazetteer of ancient places. His work bridges classical studies with contemporary issues through explorations of taxation, belonging, and cultural mediation.
