Njuki W. Mureithi is a Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. He holds a B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. from McGill University and has established himself as a leading researcher in mechanical vibrations and fluid-structure interactions. His academic career spans multiple decades, with continuous research productivity evident from publications dating back to 2003 through to 2025.
Professor Mureithi's primary research focuses on nonlinear dynamics and control in fluid-structure interactions, with particular emphasis on fluidelastic instability in tube and rod bundles subjected to single-phase and two-phase flows. His work has significant applications in nuclear engineering, particularly concerning fuel rod vibrations and steam generator tube dynamics, as well as broader implications for energy systems and sustainable infrastructure. His research bridges theoretical mechanics with practical engineering applications, often addressing critical safety and performance issues in mechanical systems.
His recent publications (2023-2025) demonstrate continued innovation in the field, with work expanding into renewable energy applications such as photovoltaic-thermal systems and bio-inspired approaches to vibration mitigation. Professor Mureithi has maintained a consistent publication record with numerous articles in high-impact journals including Nuclear Engineering and Design, Journal of Fluids and Structures, and Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology.
Professor Mureithi has supervised 15 doctoral students and 16 master's students to completion, demonstrating a strong commitment to graduate education. His teaching responsibilities include 'Vibrations' (MEC2435) and 'Vibration and Stability' (MEC8902), courses that directly align with his research expertise. He is affiliated with multiple centers of excellence at Polytechnique Montréal, with his primary affiliation in 'Energy, water and resources' and secondary affiliations in 'Modeling and Artificial Intelligence' and 'Transport and Sustainable Infrastructure.'
His research methodology combines experimental investigations, analytical modeling, and computational techniques to address complex vibration phenomena in mechanical systems. Professor Mureithi's work has practical implications for nuclear safety, energy system design, and mechanical component reliability, making significant contributions to both academic knowledge and engineering practice in mechanical engineering.
