Prof. Nissim Ben-Arie is a Professor at the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, affiliated with the Alexander Silberman Institute of Life Sciences at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research focuses on developmental neuro-genetics, particularly the role of bHLH transcription factors in nervous system development and neurodegenerative diseases. He utilizes chick embryos and genetically engineered mice to study molecular mechanisms and disease implications.
- Key affiliations: Faculty of Science, Silberman Institute of Life Sciences
- Lab: Lab of Developmental Genetics
Research interests include transcription factor regulation during embryonic development, disease causation by genetic mutations, and applications in stem cell therapy for Parkinson’s. He has received notable awards for both research and teaching excellence, including the Teva Prize (1999), Farkas-Himsley Award (2004), and recognition as an excelling teacher (2015-16).
His group studies dopaminergic neurons, spinal cord development, and molecular interactions of transcription factors. Ongoing projects aim to translate developmental insights into clinical treatments and stem cell directed differentiation.
