Her research spans transitional justice frameworks, gender dynamics in conflict, victimhood, and accountability mechanisms within conflicted societies. Through semi-structured interviews, she investigates how grassroots actors leverage transitional justice as a tool during active conflicts, emphasizing bottom-up political struggles for justice.
Her 2019 work on the Kurdish conflict synthesizes victim perspectives with transitional justice theory, exploring the feasibility of applying TJ mechanisms in the absence of official political will. This research intersects sub-fields like victim-centered approaches, ongoing conflict analysis, and grassroots activism.
Nisan co-founded the DEMOS Research Association in 2015, contributing to interdisciplinary research on justice and accountability. While no specific scientific awards are listed, her project completion acknowledgment by the IPRA Foundation highlights her academic contributions.
