Nirshanthan Nagarajah is an academic staff member at the University of Cambridge's Department of Public Health and Primary Care, specifically affiliated with The Primary Care Unit (PCU). He currently serves as Assistant Director of GP Studies, leading for Year 5 medical students, and has been actively involved in medical education at Cambridge since 2013.
Dr. Nagarajah qualified from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School in 2002 and completed his GP training in Maidstone, Kent in 2009. He became a partner at New River Health (formerly Church Street and Castlegate Surgeries) in 2010, covering the areas of Ware and Hertford.
His professional focus centers on Primary Care and General Practice, with significant contributions to Medical Education and Clinical Teaching methodologies. His work emphasizes practical clinical training within community settings, bridging academic medicine with real-world patient care.
Dr. Nagarajah became an Associate Trainer in 2018 and was appointed Assistant Director of GP Studies in 2023. He continues to maintain an active clinical practice across multiple sites including New River Health, One Hatfield Hospital and The Holly Hospital while fulfilling his academic responsibilities.
Through his role in the Primary Care Unit, he contributes to advancing primary healthcare education and research, with particular emphasis on effective clinical supervision and curriculum development for medical students in general practice settings.
