Ninib Baryawno is an Associate Professor and Principal Researcher at the Karolinska Institutet, affiliated with the Department of Women's and Children's Health. His research focuses on pediatric cancers like neuroblastoma and medulloblastoma, as well as bone metastases, using single-cell technologies and computational modeling to understand tumor microenvironment dynamics.
- 2018: Assistant Professor at Karolinska Institutet
- 2023: Associate Professor (Docent) and Group Leader at Karolinska Institutet
- 2022: Principal Researcher at Karolinska Institutet
His lab investigates cancer resistance mechanisms, emphasizing neuroblastoma, medulloblastoma, and bone metastases. Recent work includes identifying gene signatures for prognosis in kidney cancer and exploring DHODH inhibition as a therapeutic strategy.
Key research trends span single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, tumor-immune interactions, and metastatic microenvironment. The lab trains graduate and undergraduate students in pediatric oncology, tumor biology, and regenerative medicine.
Current lab members include PhD students Adele Alchahin, Bethel Tesfai Embaie, and Manouk Verhoeven, as well as postdoctoral researchers Jörg Otte and Emmi Puuvuori. The group is based at BioClinicum, Stockholm.
