Dr. Ning Zhao is an Assistant Professor in Railway Systems Engineering at the University of Birmingham, affiliated with the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) within the School of Engineering. His expertise spans railway system engineering, including autonomous train systems, traction systems, hydrogen systems, and railway control and signaling systems. He holds a PhD and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Chartered Engineer (CEng).
His research focuses on advancing railway technologies, supported by grants from EPSRC, Innovate UK, and industry partners. He has published over 40 papers in journals such as IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems and Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies.
Ning teaches modules like Railway Control and Digital Systems and Applications of Railway Control Systems. He actively supervises postgraduate students and contributes to the BCRRE's mission in railway innovation. His work bridges academic research and industrial applications, emphasizing sustainable and intelligent transportation solutions.
