معرفی
Dr. Osama Olaby is a Research Fellow in Mechatronic Systems at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE), University of Birmingham. He holds a PhD in Control Engineering and Medical Robotics from INSA Lyon, France, and has over two decades of experience across academia and industry in four countries. His expertise spans Control Engineering, Mechatronics, Modelling & Simulation, Systems Integration, and Automation, with a focus on multidisciplinary areas like Medical Robotics, Biomedical Engineering, and Rail Transport.
Education:
- BEng (Hons) in Control Engineering & Industrial Electronics, University of Aleppo (2000)
- MSc in Control Systems, Toulouse III Paul Sabatier (2003)
- PhD in Control Engineering and Medical Robotics, INSA Lyon (2006)
Research Interests: His work emphasizes innovative railway systems, including RFID-based positioning, fault-tolerant track switches (e.g., Repoint), and mechatronic actuation. He has contributed to over 25 publications in journals and conferences, focusing on railway infrastructure, control systems, and medical robotics.
Projects: Key projects include the Repoint track switch system (funded by Shift2Rail and RSSB), which introduces redundancy and reliability in railway switching. He has also developed controllers using NI-LabVIEW and CompactRIO for railway automation.
Labs & Affiliations: Active at BCRRE, collaborating with industry on railway innovation. Supervised MSc projects in Railway Engineering and co-supervised BEng/MEng final-year projects.
