Nina-Marie Lister is a Professor in the School of Urban & Regional Planning at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), Visiting Professor of Landscape Architecture at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, and Senior Fellow at Massey College. Her work bridges ecological design, urban planning, and sustainability.
Her research focuses on landscape infrastructure, biodiversity recovery, and climate resilience. She directs TMU’s Ecological Design Lab, a collaborative initiative advancing ecological design practices.
Lister’s work is supported by grants from Canada’s Tri-Council (SSHRC) and Sweden’s FORMAS. She has authored/co-edited influential books including Projective Ecologies and The Ecosystem Approach, with over 100 publications in ecological planning and design.
Honors include the Margolese National Design Prize, Honorary Membership in the American Society of Landscape Architects, and leadership recognition from Planetizen. She advises global initiatives like the Biophilic Cities Network and the $500M Wildlife Crossing Fund.
