Nina Burridge

Nina Burridge is an Honorary Associate Professor and Industry Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), working within the School of International Studies & Education. With over 30 years in academia, she has held senior roles including founding director of the Institute of Aboriginal Studies at Macquarie University (1997–1999) and Co-Director of UTS's Cosmopolitan Civil Societies Research Centre (2008–2015). Her research focuses on social justice education, human rights pedagogy, Indigenous education, and global equity issues such as Afghan women's access to education. She actively engages with community organizations like the Don Chipp Foundation and the Burdekin Association, emphasizing praxis between academic work and social action.

Her funded research includes projects on disability accommodations in higher education, human rights curriculum mapping in Australian schools, and refugee education initiatives. Awards include the Edmund Rice Centre Human Rights Award (2007) and UTS Human Rights Awards (2012, 2016). She has led evaluations of programs like White Ribbon Australia's Breaking the Silence Schools Program and contributed to policy development through grants funded by the Australian Research Council and NSW Department of Education.

Burridge's scholarship bridges theory and practice, addressing systemic barriers in education and advocating for marginalized groups. Her recent work explores pedagogical frameworks for justice, teacher agency in globalized contexts, and the role of non-state actors in education. She remains a vocal advocate for equity in education systems and community-driven solutions to social challenges.
