Nils Hennig, MD, PhD, MPH serves as Associate Professor across multiple departments at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, with appointments in Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, Environmental Medicine, Pediatrics Infectious Diseases, and Global Health and Health Systems Design. He directs the Master of Public Health Program and serves as Associate Director of the Mount Sinai Global Health Center.
Dr. Hennig is an expert in humanitarian aid, infectious diseases, and public health with fifteen years of international experience working with organizations including Doctors Without Borders, Doctors of the World, and the Fogarty International Center. His research spans global health systems, pandemic response, and infectious disease management across diverse settings from Afghanistan to Brazil.
His scholarly work focuses on epidemiological patterns and interventions during health emergencies, particularly evident in his systematic review on early COVID-19 indicators. His publications reflect his commitment to understanding disease transmission and developing effective public health responses in crisis situations.
As Director of the Master of Public Health Program since 2010, Dr. Hennig has shaped the education of numerous public health professionals. He also provides clinical care at the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Clinic at Mount Sinai, serving infected and affected children and young adults while continuing international relief work, research, and training.
