معرفی
Nils Andersson is a Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Southampton, specializing in general relativistic astrophysics with a focus on black holes, neutron stars, and gravitational-wave astronomy. He holds leadership roles, including former President of the International Society of General Relativity and Gravitation (2019-2022). His work bridges theoretical physics and observational astrophysics, particularly exploring neutron star dynamics, superfluidity, and gravitational wave signatures.
Education: PhD in Theoretical Physics from Uppsala University (Sweden), followed by postdoctoral research in Germany, the USA, and the UK. Awards include the Philip Leverhulme Prize (2001) and the 2024 Karl Schwarzschild Prize for Astrophysics.
Research interests emphasize neutron star dynamics, including pulsar glitches, magnetar flares, and the interplay between nuclear reactions and gravitational wave emissions. Current projects involve modeling neutron star tides, resistive magnetohydrodynamics, and enhancing gravitational wave observatory infrastructure.
Publications focus on relativistic fluid dynamics, dynamical tides, and multi-wavelength observations of compact objects. He supervises PhD students and collaborates with international teams through initiatives like the Gravitational Wave Excellence through Alliance Training (GrEAT) Network.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics group and the Southampton Theory Astrophysics and Gravity (STAG) Research Centre.
