Nilgun Bayraktar

Nilgun Bayraktar is Associate Professor and Chair of the History of Art and Visual Culture Program at California College of the Arts. Her interdisciplinary research examines cinematic/artistic representations of migration, border studies, and postcolonial futurisms across Europe, Middle East, and the Americas.

Current research investigates 'border futurities' through speculative cinema and counter-memory in contemporary art, funded by Dutch research grants. Publications include the monograph Mobility and Migration in Film and Moving Image Art and co-edited volume E(n)stranged: Rethinking Defamiliarization.

Teaching encompasses film theory, dystopian cinema, cities in film, and visual culture. She has delivered keynotes internationally on migration cinema and border imaginaries.
