Dr. Nil Uzun is a Researcher at the Institute of Sociology, RWTH Aachen University, where she has worked since 2022 in the Technology and Diversity research unit. Previously, she served as a Lecturer and Teaching Assistant in Sociology at Rutgers University from 2012 to 2022.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Sociology, Rutgers University (2023)
- MA in Sociology, Rutgers University (2014)
- MA in Sociology/Social Anthropology, Central European University (2010)
- MA in Cultural Studies, Sabanci University (2008)
- BA in Economics, Bogazici University (2005)
Her research critically examines intersections of technology, gender, and society through frameworks of Global Sociology, Sociology of Knowledge, and Digital Cultures. She investigates temporal dimensions in social phenomena and power structures in knowledge production, with particular focus on how digital systems reinforce or challenge social inequalities. Her teaching portfolio includes Sociology of Computing, Gender/Politics/Technology, and Global Technoscience courses that integrate these theoretical perspectives.
Publication analysis reveals consistent thematic threads across her work: transnational knowledge circulation patterns, ethnographic methodologies in STEM/biomedicine, and systemic gender biases in algorithmic systems. These contributions bridge Science and Technology Studies with feminist theory, demonstrating how technological development is embedded in social power dynamics and cultural contexts.
As core faculty in RWTH Aachen's Technology and Diversity unit, she contributes to institutional initiatives examining sociotechnical systems through intersectional lenses, particularly regarding how digital infrastructures shape social inclusion and temporal experiences in contemporary societies.
